TWELVE TRIBES INTERVIEW
August 1, 2004

Ed Martin for Prophecy21.com: How's the tour been going so far?
Adam Jackson Vocals for Twelve Tribes: The tour's been awesome man. It's a chance for us to play in front of a lot of kids that normallywouldn't see us. 36 is fuckin awesome, Candiria is awesome, Kittie'scool. All the bands are unique and it makes for a good night.

P21: Did you have a good time on the Ferret Tour?
AJ: Yeah, that was awesome to tour in our element and play in front ofhardcore kids and just kids that are into new music.

P21: Are you guys looking forward to going on the road with Soulfly?
AJ: Yeah, thats gonna be awesome. It's another situation like thiswhere its like you get to play to kids that wouldn't normally hearyou. I grew up listening to Sepultura and just being able to be on thesame stage as Max and getting to be able to meet that guy is gonna befucking awesome.

P21: How have people been reacting to the new album so far?
AJ: Its been getting a really good response. It's pretty much doingexactly what we wanted it to. We wanted to write a record thats nottypical and not doing the same thing as everyone else. I think theresponse we've been getting shows that we did that and the kids get it.

P21: What's your favorite track to play live off the new album?
AJ: Ya know that changes from show to show. Especially when its ashow where the kids know the words, because the vibe you get from theaudience makes it totally different. But if I had to pick one I'd sayThe Train Bridge which is track number 7.

P21: What caused you guys to change the name of the band in the past?
AJ: It was one of those things that just comes up in band room. Wewe're just like, "Fuck man." We had changed our drummer and our bassplayer a couple years ago and we had written a ton of songs and wewe're just like, "Fuck it lets just change our name and start over asa new band." We had thought it was a cool idea, but it was like ehh. So we ended up changing it back because people were like telling ushow much they liked Twelve Tribes and we decided that as a band itsbetter to have a history and build on that, rather then start fresh.Which we thought would be cool, but turned out not to be. It was amistake.

P21: What caused you guys to incorporate as much melody as you did onthis album?
AJ: I don't know man. It just kind of comes out naturally. When youwrite songs, I don't think you really write to try to make somethingsound a certain way so much as you just try to let parts happen. Likeif someone writes a riff or two and I write some vocal patterns orlyrics then the rest just kind of comes out naturally. Its kind of asum of all our influences, its hard to pinpoint. You don't try to dosomething, it just happens.

P21: How'd the shoot for Venus Complex go?
AJ: It was awesome. We shot the video in Hoboken, New Jersey. Weshot it with Dale Restaghini, he's done videos with like Hatebreed,Candiria, 36 Crazyfists and it was fuckin awesome. We showed up the dayof the shoot and there was a crew of like 10-12 people and they hadlike catering and all kinds of stuff it was like the whole behind thescenes thing. For our first video it was real professional. It waskinda intense we played the song like 16 times over the course of tenhours. Its like when your playing the song and its coming over thespeakers and you're trying to really do it but you're not its a reallysurreal experience. It turned out awesome.

P21: What was the concept?
AJ: Basically we wanted to do something that focuses on us asmusicians and as a band. I'm not into all the actors and everything. Like every video that comes out is like a fucking hot chick that makesout with the singer of the band or something really random. So wewanted to do something that brought it back to more of a metal orunderground feel. Like Metallica's video for "One" is just themrocking out in a warehouse. I thought that was kind of a coolinspiration for us and I talked about it with the director and toldhim how I just want it to be about us playing our music.

P21: How did you guys decide on the artwork for the CD?
AJ: It actually took a couple tries. We had a couple people try to dostuff and we weren't feeling it and then we hooked up with Corey fromSons of Nero. I gave him the lyrics and I told him some of theconcepts I had and just threw some stuff together and it just turnedout really good. We talked about having a theme of transformation andgood and evil and how the line between that is very thin. And ourown perceptions of good and evil in the outside world and how it allgoes hand in hand. That was the general concept and then his artworkI was just totally into.

P21: What bands that you haven't toured with yet would you like to?
AJ: There's a lot. Well I'd like to tour with Killswitch, Howard'sour manager, so we'll most definitely be doing that. It's weird man, we tour with a lot of our friends bands. We've been real lucky inthat way. I'd like to tour with bands that aren't even aroundanymore, like I'd like to tour with Glassjaw. I dunno it's weird, likeI never thought I'd be touring with Candiria. I grew up listening tothem and I still listen to them and now all of a sudden I'm fuckingtouring with them. It's awesome. I wanna tour with as many bands as Ican. That's all we wanna do is just stay out on the road.

P21: What do you guys usually do to kill time on the road?
AJ: We play NBA Live on Playstation, we play Tekken. We take part ina lot of debauchery. We go out to a lot of strip clubs. Fuckin, hangout. Just talk to people, being on tour is cool cause you get to meetnew people every day. That really keeps it interesting. We do a lotof fucking driving though. It sucks when you do get to go to a coolcity and all you get to do is drive through load and play and thenhead off to the next day. Its cool when we have a day off though. Wehad a day off in New Orleans and we spent the whole day on BourbonStreet just going from strip club to strip club just kicking it, itwas fucking awesome. We dropped a lot of money.

P21: What do you usually do when you're at home not working with theband?
AJ: Work. I have a degree in engineering, so I worked as an engineerfor a while and just hang out and practice or go to the movies or toshows.

P21: Thanks, is there anything that you want to add?
AJ: Just go buy the record. Rebirth of Tragedy it's on Ferret and it'sin stores everywhere.
