NONPOINT INTERVIEW
September 30, 2004

Ed Martin for Prophecy21.com: How's the tour been going so far?
Elias Soriano Vocalist for Nonpoint: So far, so good. We're wrapping it up, we've got I think one more day tomorrow then we're going home.

P21: How have people been reacting to the new material so far?
ES: Awesome. Everyones singing along and jumping around like crazy. It's been cool.

P21: What are you guys doing after this tour?
ES: Saliva. We're doing like 20 radio shows and then three weeks with Saliva.

P21: How'd the video shoot for The Truth go?
ES: It was cool. We did it with Mat Bass the guy who did Endure. We flew out to LA for a day spent 15 hours in a studio and knocked it out.

P21: What was the concept behind the video?
ES: Just a basic idea of what's going on with like lyrics from the song popping up throughout. Us in the studio in a room just rocking out.

P21: Are there any plans to release a DVD in the future?
ES: Soon, but its still getting edited together.

P21: How did you guys decide to cover In The Air Tonight for this album?
ES: It was an idea that got tossed at us a couple of years ago and we decided to give it a shot in the studio last minute. It came out pretty good. We just wanted to do a song that really wasn't like a quintessential rock song. We didn't want to do like a Sabbath cover or a Zeppelin cover.

P21: How did it come about that the song was getting played during the baseball playoffs?
ES: The guys at ESPN have been fans of the band for years. They use our music during the X Games quite a bit, so they heard the track and instantly loved it.

P21: How did you guys get hooked up with the guys at ESPN?
ES: This girl at the X Games, Bonnie, was a fan, like I said, a long time ago and just supported our band by playing us during the X Games.

P21: Are you a baseball fan?
ES: I'm a big playoffs and world series fan. I like to watch all the good teams play, I don't like watching all that in between stuff. None of that stat stuff that I don't need to know about

P21: Is there any meaning behind the symbol you guys use as your logo or was it just something that you guys drew up and thought looked cool?
ES: It's a tribal frog from a long time ago that stuck with the band. It started in Puerto Rico and we brought it up with us and its become kind of an icon or mascot of the band.

P21: Do you guys plan on re-releasing Struggle ever?
ES: We have kind of its remastered and put out on our website. It's called Separate Yourself.

P21: What are your influences in writing?
ES: We try not to be influenced by anybody. We try to sit around in a room and write music we've never heard before. Everything kind of has a sound, like if you pick up a guitar plug it in and use distortion its gonna sound like a distorted guitar you can't change that, but this time around we decided to just not let it be influenced by anyone else. We decided that if a guitar riff sounded like something else we'd just trash the riff and keep writing 'til we got something sounding original.

P21: When you were out with (hed)p.e. they nick named your tour bus The Library, how did that nick name come about?
ES: We're not like the quintessential party band. I'm not a big drinker, we don't like crowds and parties on the bus. We tour for months on end and we like to keep it clean and as homey feeling as possible. Their bus was like exactly the opposite. Every time they walked on to our bus they said they felt like they had to be quiet like in a library.

P21: What do you guys usually do to kill time on the road?
ES: Smoke pot and play video games. Thats about it.

P21: On Statement how did you guys come up with doing the montage style cover that Tribute was?
ES: That was a long time ago in the scene, songs that were big when we were still drawing fans and way before we were signed, like years and years and years and years ago. We just wanted to give a little hip-hop tribute to the people that were moving our crowds.

P21: Did it take you guys a long time to make the songs flow so well together?
ES: Actually it was kind of easy. I tried to put the lyrics together and then the guys put the music together after that.

P21: How did you decide to do another Spanish song on this album?
ES: We missed it off the second record and this time around we just wanted to bring that Latin edge back into the band. A couple of songs we put some more Latin beats into too.

P21: What made you decide to print the lyrics in English?
ES: Because so many people hit the website last time asking what the lyrics meant. This time we decided to just cut the crap.

P21: Thanks, is there anything you want to add?
ES: Just get the record, Recoil, it's in stores.
