A LIFE ONCE LOST INTERVIEW
August 6, 2006

Ed Martin for Prophecy21.com: How's the tour been going so far?
Bob Meadows Vocals for A Life Once Lost: It's been amazing. The reactions from the crowds, all the kids coming out to the signings, it's all been amazing.

P21: Are there any bands in particular on this tour that you were excited to hear you'd be going out with.
BM: Strapping Young Lad. A lot of the other bands we've toured with before so we're just excited to see our friends and have a good time.

P21: What are your thoughts about Ozzy playing the second stage?
BM: I think it's cool. I think it brings that like excitement back to it. From what I've heard, he loves it and doesn't even wanna leave the second stage. You know, if he does it again I'd bet you'll see him doing the second stage next year. The only thing that's kind of a bum out is when he does play the second stage they put all kinds of extra barricades around the whole thing and its like only the first 3,000 people who get in get a wrist band and get to watch from inside the barrier. So to me playing the second stage there's a lot of kids who just buy grass tickets and come over to the second stage to see the bands that they really wanna see so it's almost like a turn off to me. But, at the same time it does encourage them to get here early and see all the bands.

P21: What are your favorite and least favorite parts of playing a big festival tour like this?
BM: The days are long and boring, that's the worst part. The best part is just everyone you meet, all your friends, the amount of time you have just to sit down and talk to people, ya know. You can just do whatever you want it's amazing.

P21: Do you like how the rotating second stage line up is working out?
BM: Yeah it's good. It gives everyone kinda an equal opportunity to play in front of a large amount of people. It makes things fairly even.

P21: How do you decide on your set list when you have to work with such a short set?
BM: We wanted to really focus on the record at hand, that is Hunter. We had five songs that we all really agreed that we thought we could really go out there and make a dent with. Make a total impact on the people that are not too familiar with us, usually that's like 95% of the audience playing to this kind of crowd. The songs that we chose totally fit I think they work perfectly. It's totally awesome.

P21: What do you usually do to kill time on the road?
BM: I like to sleep on the bus. It's cool cause when you wake up, usually you're already there. Hanging out with people, drinking, smoking weed, talking, reading, surfing the web, anything that kills time and kills the boredom you know. You do get kind of bored here because there's a lot of dead time, down time. But the other side its just ...amazing.

P21: What'd you think about getting picked as one of Spin Magazines bands to watch in '06?
BM: I think it's pretty cool; it's kind of flattering. You know Spin Magazine is kind of a big deal to some people. To be lumped in with some of the bands on that list, some of which are massive bands in my eyes, to be tied in with that is fucking... it's a really cool feeling.

P21: Have you guys begun writing anything for the next album?
BM: We have songs here and there, just like ideas. I haven't like lyrically come up with a concept for the next record yet. We're just kind of focusing on this right now. After Ozzfest we plan on writing more songs.

P21: You guys are pretty open with the fact that you smoke weed. Has it ever caused you to run into any troubles on tour?
BM: No we've never really had any kind of like trouble while touring. I don't know, I think it's just that it's who we are. We're not trying to portray any other kind of image, besides; we like to hang, we like to party, we like to drink, we like to be dudes. That's who we are, we're just five dudes playing music and hanging out.

P21: What's your favorite song to play live?
BM: "With Pitiless Blows", it was the fourth song in our set today. We kinda created the whole wall of death kind of buzz, which was kinda cool. It's a nice little excitement to see kids be going off like that.

P21: Are there any bands you haven't gotten a chance to tour with yet that you'd really like to?
BM: I'd like to go out with Meshuggah. Strapping Young Lad on like an actual tour, tour, not like a festival tour. We played with them last summer on Sounds of the Underground also. I love touring, it doesn't really matter who it's with. If the dudes are cool and easy to get along with then I'm stoked.

P21: Thanks is there anything that you want to add?
BM: Nah that's it.
